530 Collins St Tower

530 Collins Street is a dual tower complex in Melbourne’s CBD supporting many high-level tenants such as the Melbourne Data Centre, AEMO, Suncorp and many others. Stowe Australia were engaged to undertake the replacement of 24 ACB’s within the main switchboards and upgrade two Generator PLC’s.

The site contains six main switchboards which are approximately 30 years old. Each switchboard contained Air Circuit Breakers (ACB’s) which had passed their economic and serviceable life. Stowe were engaged to undertake the ACB replacements.
Stowe also engaged sub-contractors to carry out the upgrade of the generator control system and associated hardware replacement and to carry out the Ventilation Upgrade to the B1 MSR and L14P MSR’s respectively. The project ran successfully over a 14-month period.
All works associated within switchboard shutdowns or isolations to services were carried out after hours to minimise impacts to the operation of the building. The building occupants continued to be operational during the works. Stowe had to engage in a comprehensive design, execution and commissioning plan to minimise outages on site.
The replacement of these ACB’s were to be based on a like-for-like replacement, however due to the age of some of the breakers, some of them required retrofit kits which required modifications to the switchboard to fit the devices.
