Ampol partnered up with Stowe Australia for the design and construction of EV charging stations throughout Australia.
The Ampol East Village project at Zetland, Sydney involved the design and installation of 3 EV chargers and included supply and installation of cable tray, switchboards, cabling and lighting. The project also involved line marking and column painting in charging bays and supply and installation of bollards. These chargers are capable of charging a car in approx. 45minutes. Stowe designed a purpose built custom switchboard to supply the new chargers, complete with metering. This project was thoroughly planned and coordinated with key stakeholders, to ensure the centre was fully operational and uninterrupted during the construction. Once we energised the chargers and the site went officially live on the app, vehicles were arriving and being charged within the first 15 minutes. Overall, this project was a success for Ampol and Stowe. This was the first 3rd party site fully operation for Ampol.
Working in a live carpark presented the project with its own set of unique challenges as vehicles and pedestrians were present. To ensure safety, Stowe created exclusion zones and barricaded work areas to safely install cable trays and cable at heights on platform ladders. Spotters were also on hand to help minimise risk. Due to the site being underground, Stowe partnered up with a subcontractor to skate and winch the chargers and switchboard into the underground carpark after hours to avoid the disruption of traffic operations. As the isolation of the existing MSB would take out the supply to Coles, Stowe decided the best course of action to carry out the works was during after hours over two nights to minimise the down time to the fridge and freezers. With risk minimised and workflow optimised, Stowe was able to deliver a successful project.
