Stowe Australia were honoured with being awarded and successfully completing the largest healthcare infrastructure project ever undertaken by the ACT Government, for which Stowe have collected multiple industry leading awards.
- Winner – Commercial Large Project of the Year at the 2024 NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) ACT Excellence Awards.
- Runner up / Commendation – Commercial Large Project of the Year at the 2024 NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) National Excellence Awards.
The new facility is a stand-alone building (approx. 45,000m2). It houses the most acute services for the Canberra Hospital and is the first point of contact for all emergency patients arriving by air, ambulance or through self-presentation.
Some of the significant components that make up the new building include an emergency department comprising of 114 treatment bays, a new Medical Imaging Department, a 10-bed short stay Mental Health Unit, 22 Operating Theatres, a 60-bed Intensive Care Unit and much more.
Stowe’s works comprise the design, construction documentation, coordination, interfacing, certification, supply, delivery, transportation, storage, installation, commissioning, testing, program, entering data for, placing into service, maintenance, quality assurance, certification and warranty of electrical, communications, security services and audio-visual services for a vast range of requirements on this large projects, including High Voltage works and as helipad on Level 9 complete with heli-parking.
Being the single largest construction project in the ACT, which at its peak had no fewer than 135 workers onsite working under the Stowe banner, brought some resourcing challenges which we took a multi-State approach to successfully solving for this now Stowe award-winning project to thrive.
The Canberra Hospital Expansion Project (CHEP), has increased capacity across Canberra Hospital’s adult intensive care, paediatric intensive care, surgical, coronary care and emergency services – making it the largest regional hospital that is now the central hub for the ACT and surrounding regions.
