HMAS Stirling Oxley Wharf Extension involved the supply and installation of electrical and communications services to facilitate the extension of the wharf and service the nation’s growing naval fleet.

High Voltage Component: this consisted of extending the existing 50Hz and 60Hz ring mains to incorporate the new substation for the Oxley wharf extension.

Low Voltage Component: consisted of new 50Hz and 60Hz LV switchboards within the new substation for feeding the 3x50Hz and 3x60Hz cope points, facilitating ship to shore power and the wharf LV distribution board for the wharf floodlights, under wharf lighting and small power requirements.

Communication Component: consisted of installation of a SCEC rack in Building B0230, a SCEC rack in the new substation and 3xICT cope points.

Security and CCTV Component: Consisted of adding 4xCCTV cameras to the existing base wide system and an Access Control System to the new substation.

There were various challenges including transporting the large substation from the HMAS Stirling Gatehouse to site location, which due to space and manoeuvring constraints proved challenging.

Stowe stationed a permanent Project Manager onsite to ensure milestones were consistently achieved on this important defence site.
