Mid North Coast Correctional Centre

Stowe Australia was engaged by Besix Watpac to deliver the electrical and communications package for the expansion of the Mid North Coast Correctional Centre.

The project included the construction of a new maximum-security facility featuring four accommodation blocks with dedicated exercise yards, as well as an industry building, a programs building, a segregation facility, a health clinic, custodial offices, and outdoor recreational areas.
In addition, refurbishment works were carried out on the existing gatehouse, visits building, staff amenities, and intake reception.

Stowe’s scope of work included:
- ASP Level 1 construction of new substations and incoming site power
- Supply and installation of main switchboard and distribution boards
- Backup generator plant for essential power resilience
- Full underground reticulation and submain cabling to all buildings
- Lightning protection system
- General power cabling, fittings, and fixtures
- Internal and external lighting systems
- Structured communications system across the expanded site.
The project benefited from early value engineering, resulting in a cost-effective design and early completion.
Prefabrication and pre-assembly methods supported safety in the live correctional environment, while local procurement and community involvement provided strong support to the region.
