The NextDC S2 High Voltage Feeder project involved the installation of a dedicated 11kV feeder linking the Macquarie Ausgrid Sub transmission Substation (STS) to the state-of-the-art NextDC S2 data centre in Macquarie Park.
This critical infrastructure upgrade was essential to meet the high energy demands of the facility, ensuring futureproof power redundancy and network resilience.
The installed HV cable had a weight of 27kg per metre, with each drum weighing up to 31 tonnes. Handling and laying such heavy-duty materials demanded precision logistics and specialised equipment.
The project was delivered within a densely populated urban area, spanning some of Sydney’s busiest arterial roads.
Working within these high-traffic corridors required extensive planning, stakeholder coordination, and out-of-hours operations. To minimise disruption to commuters and surrounding businesses, all works were conducted at night under strict traffic management controls and council permit conditions.
Despite the logistical complexity, environmental sensitivities, and night shift constraints, the feeder installation was successfully completed on time and to specification. The project delivered a robust and high-capacity power connection to support NextDC’s expanding operations in Sydney.
