Stowe Australia was awarded the contract for the installation of electrical, communications and security services for the Port Botany Redevelopment Project, designed to convert the existing Manual Container Carrier System to become fully automated.

This project was a major expansion and redevelopment of the existing Port Botany Container Terminal to improve Patrick’s operation capacity, efficient and overall safety.

For the purposes of the project implementation, the overall plant was broken into several stages as follows:

Stage 1 was the ‘green field’ portion of the project constructed on newly reclaimed land. In later phases of the project this included the introduction of three new additional Quayline ship-to-shore cranes.

Stage 2 was the western portion of the terminal, the portion of the existing site which was fully operational throughout the construction phase. This portion of the project included eight ship-to-shore cranes, container storage, road and rail interchange. All managed via the existing manual operated straddle vehicle system.

Stage 3 was the eastern portion of the terminal, which was primarily an office and maintenance area. The area included some operating areas such as storage, empty container exchange and newly constructed road ramp to the Truck Grid area.

The overall challenge that was faced by Stowe Australia on the Port Botany Redevelopment project was to provide and complete the electrical, communications and security installations, whilst maintaining the integrity of the fully operating container terminal throughout the construction phases.
