The Spirit of Tasmania terminal’s operations were relocated from Station Pier Port Melbourne to Corio Quay after 37 years.

This project required the installation of a new High Voltage Distribution Network that accommodated the sites current requirements and allowed for future expansion. New LV reticulation and distribution were also required as well as street lighting throughout the facility.

Installation of a new Automated Mooring System (AMS) was required, which attaches to the side of the ship to hold it into position at the wharfs edge, securing the ship in place allowing for the safe installation of mooring ropes, which helps improve the safety of individuals, improves operational efficiency.

One of the many challenges associated with this project was the aggressive program, to ensure the timely delivery of the project Stowe looked at various off site manufacturing scenarios, one of these was to build the new main switching facility off site and then crane into position.

Additionally, the Light fittings for the areas along the water’s edge were designed for a specific orientation and contained individual LED optics to direct light away from the water as well as having an appropriate colour temperature for a marine environment. The reduction of the spill light impact on the fish and plant life was a significant environmental consideration for local ecosystem.

Located north of Geelong, the new facility provides an improved experience for more than 450,000 passengers who travel annually between Victoria and Devonport.
