Sydney Water Bondi WRRF Electrical Upgrade

This critical infrastructure upgrade at the Bondi Water Resource Recovery Facility was delivered on behalf of Ventia for Sydney Water. The project involved the supply, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems across 42 underground areas within the live, fully operational facility.

Stowe’s scope included:
- Installation of new cabling, cable tray, Residual Current Breakers (RCBs), earthing, and hardware mounted into solid rock
- Upgrade and commissioning of LED lighting and emergency lighting systems
- Testing, labelling, and commissioning across all areas
- Detailed coordination with on-site Sydney Water personnel to maintain operational continuity
- Delivery of before-and-after photo documentation to highlight lighting improvements and project quality.

Many work zones – such as tunnels, pump rooms, stairwells, screening galleries, sedimentation tanks, and fan rooms – were classified as hazardous or confined spaces. All personnel were trained for confined space entry; gas detection, spotters, and strict entry protocols were enforced throughout.
The project spanned 42 isolated underground areas, many of which were difficult to access. Custom-designed scaffold systems, high-reach access equipment, and careful planning enabled safe and efficient access to all work areas.
All installations were performed in a subterranean rock environment, requiring specialised techniques.
