The Western Sydney Airport (WSA) Aviation Fuel Hydrant Line involved the design and installation of low voltage and fibre-optic networks to facilitate underground fuel delivery around the new airport. The fuel hydrant line is a crucial part of WSA’s aviation fuel infrastructure.

The Western Sydney Airport located in Badgerys Creek is set to open in 2026. The airport is designed to operate 24/7, providing both international and domestic services without a curfew.

Stowe were engaged to design and install low voltage and fibre-optic networks to facilitate underground fuel delivery around the new airport.

The fuel hydrant line is a crucial part of the aviation fuel infrastructure. The main pipeline is approximately 10.2 kilometres long and forms a single-line loop. It starts from the fuel farm pump station, circulates around the runway, and returns to the pump station.

This setup ensures an efficient and continuous supply of fuel to the aircraft, reducing the need for fuel trucks and enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

One of our challenges was during the initial hauls on the project, there were difficulties in hauling the cables around bends. As this was identified early when there were many of the conduits yet to be installed, the opportunity was taken to increase the radius of all bends yet to be installed. The outcome of this solution was less pulling tensions and smoother more efficient installation.
