Our History: 115 years of excellence in electrical and communications solutions

1910

Francis Bell & Co. Limited – September 1910 with George Stowe, Francis Bell and six other shareholders.

 

1915

Bert Madson Commences – On the 12th of February 1915, young Alfred “Bert” Madson began his electrical apprenticeship at Francis Bell & Co.

1922

George T. Stowe – With the retirement of Francis Bell in 1922, the company was renamed to The George T. Stowe Electrical Co. Ltd.

1937

Stowe Electric Pty Ltd. – In June 1937, the company was sold to George T. Stowe’s leading foremen, Bert Madson and Sam Bogen, with the company being renamed to Stowe Electric Pty Ltd.

1950

Transformer Manufacturing – Stowe began the manufacture of 11,000 distribution transformers

1984

David Madson – In 1984, David Madson – the son of Bert Madson – bought Sam Bogen’s family out of Stowe Electric, placing 100% of the ownership with the Madson family, where it remains today.

1993

Stowe Communications – In 1993, Stowe Voice and Data was created. The division initially traded under Stowe Electric, however this was later established as Stowe Communications.

1999

Stowe Communications – In 1993, Stowe Voice and Data was created. The division initially traded under Stowe Electric, however this was later established as Stowe Communications.

2004

Chris Madson – In September 2004, Chris Madson became the third generation of the Madson family to work full time for the Stowe brand. Initially working in our finance team, Chris took on the Managing Director role in 2007, where he remains today.

2010

100 Years of Stowe Australia – On the 14th of September 2010, we celebrated the centenary of the company’s incorporation. Further research has uncovered records confirming that Francis Bell registered an electrical contracting company under the Registration of Firms Act on 20th of December 1904, as well as correspondence between his company Francis Bell & Co, and the Sydney City Council in 1905.
