SPECIAL PROJECT
Faculty of Law Building & CPD
Project | Faculty of Law Building |
Duration | 2007 – 2009 |
Manning Peak | 20-30 |
Contract Value | $8,500,000 |
Description
The project is located on The University of Sydney Camperdown Campus and is bounded by the Fisher Library and Carslaw Buildings and Barff Road and Eastern Avenue.
The project comprised of a new 6 storey building to accommodate offices and facilities for the Law Faculty, and a new 3 storey building accommodating teaching facilities and associated circulation spaces. These two buildings are located over 2 podium levels that comprise additional teaching spaces and the Law library. Two levels of underground basement car parking are also provided, along with associated plant areas and lift motor rooms throughout the different building areas.
Linked to the existing campus by the landscaped areas of the Camperdown Public Domain project, the Faculty of Law Building contains 18 seminar rooms, four 100 seat lecture theatres, 300 seat auditorium and a unique Moot Court allowing students the capability to hold Moots both locally and with remote Moot Court locations and also affords the students to become familiar with the typical surroundings, both physical and technological, of a modern courtroom.
The building has a modern look throughout, with the exposed concrete beams running alongside timber acoustic panels. The ceiling panels are curved where height transitions occur. The Main façade consists of an internal aluminum window wall enclosing the building, a frameless glass wall on the exterior, and timber louvers in between.
The Main library has a standout feature with a 13 metre high lighting tower clad in stainless steel and glass which captures natural light and directs it down into the main library. The greatest achievement on this project was the planning of all the pathways, conduits and cabling to achieve the desired requirements in concealing our work in all areas due to the vast amounts of exposed concrete beams, inaccessible ceiling spaces and the negotiation of limited ceiling space with other services.
Due to the satisfaction of the USYD Information Technologies Department of this project they have appointed Stowe on their preferred contractors list which will ensure that any further project throughout the Campus Stowe will be given an opportunity to tender on. The Network Support Officer requested Stowe to pass on the point of contact to our City office to discuss additional works in the future.
The project was profitable along with a high standard of workmanship preformed throughout all the areas which can be demonstrated on site and through appraisals from client and Builder.
The key project features that Stowe has delivered across the project included the following:
- Construction of a single basement type chamber substation comprising of 3 x 1500kva transformers.
