Description
The Data Facility Remediation project located in Sydney was a truly unique project due to many complex factors. The Data Facility is a fully functional, fully operational and critical facility for the Client’s operations.
The facility is an 11,000m2 purpose built data centre facility built in 1982.
The key deliverables of the Data Centre remediation program was to double the capacity of the critical facilities (power and cooling) to support 3,000kW of IT load, improve the resiliency and efficiency of the critical facilities infrastructure, achieve Tier 3 status and establish four additional new medium to high density computer rooms.
The Client required the facilities to be upgrade so the life of the facility would last to at least 2025. The Data Centre has undergone a major electrical capacity upgrade delivered in two stages. The first stage (started in July 2010) the electrical infrastructure was upgraded with the addition of static UPS units, utility and standby generation capacity was provided to address the short term 50% increase in IT load.
In the Stage 2 phase of works rotary diesel UPS units are utilised to increase both the UPS and standby generation capacity.
Another significant aspect of the construction works was the client’s requirement to maintain the integrity of the existing and fully functioning Data Halls without loss of supply during the remediation process to final overall integration, commissioning and handover of the project works
